UNIBS, LIGHT, and ASST among the protagonists of the European project for digital innovation in the prevention of visual impairment in young people

May 9-20, 2025 | Paolo VI Conference Center

The international conference of the European VIPPSTAR project, dedicated to visual impairment in children and adolescents, concluded in Brescia. The two-day event saw the interaction of the 18 partners in defining shared clinical practices, registries, digital architectures, and ethical regulatory pathways for the adoption of artificial intelligence in the clinical setting.

On the second day of the conference, Cesare Furlanello (LIGHT) led the session dedicated to the ethics and regulation of AI, presenting the path towards the creation of a regulatory sandbox and discussing with the partners the safety, transparency, and reliability criteria for algorithms for pediatric applications.

The conference included a session on communication and dissemination, as well as several working groups that saw the partners coordinate on co-design, clinical trial implementation, the technological macro-area, and the clinical registry.

The entire event represented a unique and valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships between partners and solidify strategic plans for the successful continuation of the VIPPSTAR project.

The project is already underway, and LIGHT will continue to support the consortium in developing AI solutions compliant with European ethical and regulatory requirements.
